Odd Thomas Book and Movie Review

Rating: 3.5

Hi everyone!

I want to thank one of our readers (Dressme4less) for recommending this book!  Thank you and I loved it!  I haven't read a Koontz book in a long time, so this was a nice treat, and I already have the second book in the series.

The films is apparently working on getting out to theaters this fall/winter.  I do wonder how that will go over since there is a large part of the book which *spoiler* ends with a massive mall shooting.

Check out the cast and let us know what you thought of the book and how you think it will translate to the screen!

Please check out these discussion questions.  I too will be addressing many of them.  :)

    1. That is a great question! I see them kind of like those creepy dark spirits in Ghost, but obviously with better CGI. Dang, I have more to say, but what I need is from the book and I had to return it because it was overdue. I will re-check it out and come back.

  3. Odd, of course, and Terrible Chester. lol I kept hearing and hearing about this book and instantly fell in love with Odd. I love the nicknames he gives people like Fungus Man. Odd's so endearing.

    1. I love Odd's descriptions too. When I read "Fungus Man" and his description this is who I thought of:

at least as far as hair. But then again I love Stanley Tucci and can see him playing every creepy character. haha!

    2. Gosh Odd's description of Fungus Man? Hmm! I thought of someone with overactive sweat glands. LB I like Stanley Tucci too he is so diverse and can play anything IMO but he does creepy really well. Hahaha!

  4. Hi All!

I liked this story. Great recommendation I could not put it down. I was looking forward to reading this book. The characters are believable and Odd’s character is contemporary and vivid. Odd's self-deprecating manor put the reader at ease despite his scary abilities. The only criticism I have is the pacing. It was a bit stagnant at times. I felt there was too much back-story and found myself skipping over large parts of the narrative. However, it did pick up toward the big climatic moment. I thought Koontz made the wait worthwhile. I did like Stormy and Odd’s relationship. Stormy was strong, funny and independent. I loved her concept of delayed gratification. My favorite ghost was Elvis. He has to be in the film. Hahaha! I really love the scene of Elvis at the Chief’s barbecue and the Chief’s response. Ozzie's cat peeing on Odd's shoe was very funny! I will start "Forever Odd" right after I finish our book for June. Again great read.

4string-What is it about Odd and Stormy u like most?

  5. What do u think of the cast? or the actor who's playing Odd? I've seen his other work and I don't like his acting. He's very one-dimensional and I see Odd as having a lot more depth. IDK maybe he's grown as an actor since the last film I've seen him in.
